Plant Cells
Introduction
There is a lot more to a plant than meets the eye. Just as an animal is made up of millions of cells, so is a plant cell.
Task
The goal for today's lesson is for the students to be able to distinguish between the organelles designed specifically for the plant cell from those designed for both.
Steps
Step 1: Briefly discuss the material from the previous lessons in the week.
Step 2: Have students list as many organelles as they can that are in plant cells, but not in an animal cell.
Step 3: Present the Digital Story, shown below, about the three important organelles that differentiate plant cells from animal cells.
Step 4: Illustrate to the students that the plant cell is equally as important as the animal cell. Explain that these three organelles discussed in the video are major components in the plants cellular processes. With the chloroplast, the plant can absorb sunlight and with energy can create glucose, thus producing the food that the plant needs for nourishment. The food that is made is then stored in the larger central vacuole along with water. Finally, the cell wall allows for these particles to flow in and out of the cell.
Step 5: Give each of the students the following assessment to show that there is an understanding of these three important organelles.
Assessment
