Thursday Lesson Plan: Mitosis
Goal: 1. To have students become familiar with the process of mitosis and how organisms are able to develop from a single cell. 2. To challenge the students in learning the details of the different phases of mitosis. Introduction: Today we are going to learn about the process in which a cell divides into two daughter cells. We will discuss the five stages of the mitosis cell cycle and later we will practice what we learned by playing an interactive online mitosis game! Step One: Present information on mitosis through PowerPoint. Answer any questions students may have during presentation. Step Two: Have students work in pairs of two or individually (their choice) and practice reviewing the phases of mitosis through an online interactive game. http://www.purposegames.com/game/stages-of-mitosis-quiz . Conclusion: After this lesson plan students should a have strong grip on the process of mitosis. The PowerPoint is thorough and includes diagrams to show students the different sub stages of mitosis. Students can then enhance their learning and (possibly) their social skills by playing the fun, interactive game that tests your knowledge on the stages of mitosis. Students that are intrapersonal learners are able to work well with others and enjoy learning with others and therefore can choose the partnering up option to test each others knowledge on the sub stages of mitosis. Students that are interpersonal learners work best when they are by themselves and therefore can choose to quiz themselves by playing the game alone.
